Hi, I’m Paul Daly, a User Experience professional in Austin Texas.
I come from an applied psychology background; working in military human factors, instructional system design, desktop GUI and web design–with a little embedded mobile thrown in as well.
My experience is in corporate UX, typically in a centralized team. Often I’ve had to create the team and incorporate UX into the business process, doing a lot of training and education, as well as UX strategy. I’ve managed UX teams, but always more of a player-coach.
My goal for this blog site is to counter the misconception that UX design is a new, or even relatively new field. This viewpoint largely comes about by those conflating the field and a domain — i.e. User Experience design = Web design. UX has been around for a while, though the names have changed.
So I will do my best to post about the history of user experience; and convince you that it didn’t just spring forth when photoshop gurus discovered the Web. There will be commentary on the current state of UX and some miscellaneous topics too.
A little personal background:
Short work history: US Air Force, USAA, Vignette (since acquired by OpenText), Texas Instruments Educational Technology, and lately Emerson Process Management.
Hobbies: homebrewing; Americana/roots rock radio DJ at KYSM 90.1 in San Antonio TX — I do a DJ shift once a month on the Third Coast Music Network show, plus I am the ‘WebMonster’ for the tcmnradio.com web site. Proudly unaffected by web fashion since 1998.
Found this on LinkedIn. Love your conclusion – Proudly unaffected by web fashion since 1998.
God luck with the blog!
